With a clean, minimalist aesthetic, every aspect of The Hide’s design has been carefully considered. From the windows of the hole – to give the dappled forest light, to the nest lights that create the same impression after dark, the whole look is low and unpolluted. A refuge for the mind and soul, the large windows that open onto the garden create a true return-to-nature that shapes the entire project. There is a rustic appeal to this concrete retreat, which continues into the master bedroom and suite, where the deep soaking tub takes center stage.
The covered deck leading off the kitchen features a hand-crafted concrete grill, perfect for preparing a feast of bushmeat. There is also a raised deck with a hot tub and far-reaching valley views, a green lawn for relaxing in the sun, and a large sitting area complete with a fire pit. “Being involved in both the design and construction of The Hide was a truly immersive experience. The secluded location and unique design make The Hide the perfect modern rustic cottage retreat.
When I first saw the site in the spring of 2015, it was magical. I have always been amazed and inspired by the unique architecture of buildings using special materials such as wood, concrete and glass. I thought I would create something that would provide a striking combination to the Cornish countryside setting, but at the same time blend seamlessly into the surrounding area.
From the first pictures to work with the skin of the bird, we decided that the wooden shingles would be more of the exterior, which will age into silver tones over time. Along with this, we added bay windows to create dappled light in the living area, such as sunlight and trees.

The angled windows, which ended up adding to the complexity of the build, that they almost didn’t make it into the final design, became one of my favorite things, especially the window behind the headboard where you wake up feeling sunken in. nature.
My goal with The Hide was for it to be a sanctuary from city life. I created an outdoor dining area with a grill and fire pit, and added a hot tub along with some yoga mats so that guests can use this as a true “health” retreat.

I loved the modern minimalist style, cool but at the same time in nature, the comfortable furniture, the outdoor facilities and the amazing private space. Splendid. It was also nice that my dog could come. I loved cooking in the beautiful kitchen and my husband loved the hot tub (and the great indoor seating area – he’s tall so he might struggle if the seats are small).
Just to say that we had a great time, there is a wonderful property, and we enjoyed everything. It exceeded expectations. The property is well designed and tastefully decorated and in a very attractive, private setting. I wish we could have stayed longer, but unfortunately we didn’t have time.
The apartment was amazing and we loved its modern design. It was close to Perranporth which was great for dogs. Thank you for such a welcoming and relaxing stay!
